Exploration 7

The most striking moment in this film was when the Native said, "Five are dead and ten of out women and children are injured, tell me which ones are Taliban." This struck me hard because it shows how hard it is to differentiate between people in times of war. The soldiers may have killed Taliban members but they also killed innocent citizens.

The scene that was most memorable to me was when the soldiers set up Outpost Restrepo. OP Restrepo was a small victory for the troops. It was a sign of strength for American troops. They had secured a good outpost and were able to hold it down, giving them the upper hand on part of the valley.

I would recommend this film to family and friends because it shows the attitude and feelings our soldiers have while fighting overseas. It also shows that while it may seem we are fighting a losing war, we are making progress.

  1. I really have to agree with you about the killing of innocent citizens. It kind of makes us look like the bad guys because we don't know exactly who we are killing = /

  2. That scene about killing the innocent locals is what really hit me too. I thought that it was so sad to see their faces and how hurt they were. You could really tell though how effected the captain was from his mistake.

  3. I feel like killing innocent people has been a problem all throughout the war and this scene proves the problem. I'm glad someone else saw it.

  4. Great point about which ones being taliban. I'm sure this happened in a lot of other places too. I know I'd be pretty upset if one of my family members was mistakenly killed.

  5. Seems like OP Restrepo was more than just a small victory to them. Great summary though.

  6. I agree with you about not being able to differentiate between civilians and the Taliban. That would be an awful feeling knowing that you killed an innocent bystander.

  7. I agree. Seeing innocent people get killed is very sad, but this will always be a problem during war. Hard to prevent it 100%

  8. It is sad how in war the innocent die so frequently, but what can we do to avoid it? How can we have civilized acts in a war that is so uncivil? I don't know. It is awful though that so many have to die.
