I guess the writer jsut wanted to get the abuse of his fathers alcoholism off his chest.
Zach, I heard on PBS last night, watching Ken Burns documentary on Prohibition, http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/prohibition/ , that about 10 percent of adult Americans have problems with alcoholism. Your quote shows there is violence associated with a lot of the abuse, and that is the part to me that is the most troubling. Good job!
